Map Making

Progress on our inaugural game is underway. We've been busy working at laying some foundations before development on 'Sovereign' begins. James has been writing and refining the script and we have been working on early stage concept art to get a look and feel for our town in place. One step is to design and map out the entire playable environment.

After taking several research trips to Tonrbidge, Sidcup, Orpington and other suburban towns (alongside a few solid days spent driving virtually around surrounding areas on Google Streetview!), we created mashups of Google maps that we felt referenced the plot of our game to try and visualise the landscape. Then, we started drawing away on our office whiteboard whilst having the team read through the script to work out ideas and decide on placement and mechanics that we know exist.

Our next step, which is now underway, is to block out the first level of Sovereign in Unreal Engine 4 with basic geometry to try and make sense of the first landscape the player will find themselves in. We'll be posting updates charting our progress through this ambitious project as it develops on our feed.
